Walt Farrell is Vice President of Economic Development for Georgia Power. In this role, Walt leads a team that is responsible for helping recruit new business to the state of Georgia, supporting regional economic development efforts, and creating economic development innovations. Additional areas of focus include marketing, data analysis, site analysis technologies, and engineering.

Walt is no stranger to business recruitment across the great state of Georgia. In his previous role as Manager of Statewide Economic Development for Georgia Power, Walt was responsible for all business recruitment and attraction efforts to support new business growth in Georgia.

Before joining Georgia Power in 2015, Walt served as a Director of the Advanced Manufacturing team at the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD), where he was responsible for recruiting domestic and international companies to Georgia, leading tax incentive negotiations on Georgia’s behalf, and directing the Georgia Ready for Accelerated Development (GRAD) Program, the state’s industrial site certification program. Prior to his work with GDEcD, Walt worked in Community and Economic Development for both Electric Cities of Georgia and MEAG Power.

Walt currently serves on the board of directors for the Georgia Lottery Corporation, Georgia 4H Foundation, CareerRise Workforce Intermediary, and the board of advisors for the Georgia Department of Economic Development.  He is the 2024 Chair of the Georgia Chamber’s Rural Prosperity Council, the Working Partner for the Georgia Allies, and is a proud member of the Georgia Economic Developers Association.

Within Georgia Power, Walt is the Executive Sponsor for the Technical Women in Georgia Employee Resource Group, which was formed to recruit, integrate, and retain women who work in technical fields or other non-traditional roles.

Walt was named one of Georgia Trend’s 2023 40 under 40, is a graduate of Leadership Georgia class of 2015 and Young Game Changers class of 2017.

Walt holds a Master of Business Administration from Auburn University and a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Clemson University. He and his wife, reside in Atlanta with their three daughters.
