2018 marked the official launch of Georgia Power C&ED's Virtual Reality app, the Georgia Experience. Marketing manager Nicole Pearson first brought the idea to life, and championed its development with her team. "I knew that VR was about to become a huge deal for storytellers," Nicole says," and our team is all about being ahead of the curve. A VR platform helps us share the Georgia experience in a unique and powerful way." The platform, developed by Atlanta-based Trick 3D, will also house any future experiences created by the team.
The first experience on the app whisks you away on a tour of some of our favorite local Georgia getaways. "We typically focus on the reasons why Georgia is ranked the best state for business," Nicole explains," so for our first experience we wanted to highlight some of the fun gems we have here too. It's a perfect state for work AND play."
The app launch coincided with Nicole's appearance on a panel at the 2018 South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, where hundred of thousands of people flock each year to experience the latest in interactive media, film, and music. Joined by other influential pioneers of virtual reality, Nicole spoke about what it's like to implement this level of innovation for the first time in an organization.
Following the release, Nicole's team was awarded a Platinum Hermes Creative Award for their work on the VR app. The Hermes Awards recognize excellence in marketing and communications, as well as creative use of emerging technologies. They were also recognized for their innovative space at the Georgia Experience Center and for SelectGeorgia.com.
