Business Facilities Top Utility 2025

Georgia Power celebrates earning a spot in Business Facilities' Top Utilities list for a third consecutive year!

Throughout the years, Georgia Power has committed to both supplying households with reliable energy and supporting businesses. Today our organization is ecstatic to be recognized for a third consecutive year as a top utility in Business Facilities Magazine.

Business Facilities Magazine is a leading publication highlighting economic development news and site selection factors and rankings from around the world. Since 2021, Georgia Power has been featured in their annual list of top utilities.

Energy availability continues to be a leading factor in site selection, and Georgia Power Economic Development provides companies with the information they need to make informed decisions when choosing a site to locate or expand.

Commitment to environmental sustainability

Georgia Power has continued their commitment to providing clean energy with Vogtle 4 entering commercial operation on April 29, 2024. Along with Vogtle 3, these plants will provide reliable, emission-free energy to customers for at least 60 to 80 years. With all four units now in operation, Plant Vogtle is the largest generator of clean energy in the nation, expected to produce more than 30 million megawatt hours of electricity each year. This development supports the goal of Georgia Power’s parent company, Southern Company, to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, and their interim target of 50% GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions reduction by 2030. Today, Georgia Power has achieved a 60% reduction in carbon emissions.

Georgia Power's Vogtle 3 & 4

In addition to the commercial operation of Vogtle 3 & 4, Georgia Power's first large-scale battery energy storage system, Mossy Branch Battery Facility announced their commercial operation in October 2024. The new facility plays a crucial role in supporting the reliability of the company’s energy grid and optimizing the use of renewable energy sources like solar. This Georgia Power-owned battery storage can be deployed back to the grid over a four-hour period, adding resiliency to the state’s power grid and helping ensure reliable energy for a growing Georgia.

Welcoming new projects

“Working in partnership with the state and local communities, in 2023, our team supported more than 16,000 new jobs, and over $9B in new commercial investment across Georgia’s top industries,” said Walt Farrell, Vice President of Economic Development for Georgia Power

Many of the projects the Georgia Power team has supported align with national trends in automotive supply chain and solar manufacturing, such as GF Casting Solutions AG (GF Casting Solutions) and SOLARCYCLE.

  • GF Casting Solutions produces lightweight components for the mobility and energy industries. Planning to invest more than $184 million in a new manufacturing facility in Augusta, this project will create 350 new jobs for Richmond County.
  • SOLARCYCLE is an advanced technology-based solar recycling company that’s investing $344 million in a solar glass manufacturing facility in Cedartown. This will create more than 600 new full-time jobs in Polk County. The facility will be the first-of-its-kind in the country to use recycled materials from retired solar panels to make new solar glass.

These projects, along with others, benefited from Georgia Power’s efforts from site selection searches, engineering and research services, power delivery timeline needs, and collaboration with state and local economic development agencies.
