The “secret” play in economic development
Don’t guess why some communities are successful when there’s a playbook available.
I have heard it said, and repeated countless times that, “economic development is a team sport.” While it’s an adage in Georgia, it’s worth repeating frequently; especially as Georgia continues to grow and evolve.
New businesses, educators, young professionals, and families are moving to Georgia, and each one of them have a position in economic development. What’s not always clear, is how to collaborate effectively towards shared community goals. The Georgia Academy aims to help Georgians enhance their collaborative leadership goals while gaining a stronger understanding of the elements required for a community to thrive.
Since 1994, the Academy has facilitated this type of education for elected officials, local decision-makers, and countless individuals focused on community success. Proving that you don’t have to have “work in economic development” to “contribute to economic development.” Since its launch, the Academy continues to improve its playbook – or courses – to meet today’s needs and plans for the future of Georgia.
Even if you’re only curious about community development and growth, I encourage you to join Georgia Power Economic Development and partners at a future Georgia Academy workshop.
“The Essentials “class is the perfect starting point. These one-day programs are designed to help participants find or stretch their community-development muscles, while connecting with regional and statewide leaders. The next course is coming to Cartersville on May 7.
If you’re interested in taking a deep dive on the specific requirements of industrial recruitment and the incentive process, check out the next “Traditional Economic Development & Incentives” hosted in Gainesville on April 16.
